I usually don’t like a book written more than one author, because united the idea from two heads isn’t easy and there will be different writing style. But after I read the phenomenal Wrong series, I always hope a new book from this duo. Even they’re came from dark romance genre, this story has darker aura, taboo theme and of course, the characters are more twisted than Wrong series.
The beautiful Evie was raised by crazy fanatic religious community. She was fed with facts that she is a sin and a root of man’s biggest temptation, so she must cleanse herself with blood and punishment. She has been whipped since young and already broken mentally. When she’s mature enough, Evie and her sister Hannah think they have holy mission to clean the world from sinners especially man. They succeeded eliminate men until Hannah murdered and Evie met Ezra.
Even though both of them are anti-hero and glorious bastard, Ezra is far different from Jude Pearson (from Wrong series). Ezra is colder, vicious and untouchable. He’s a high class pimp and praised by his customer. Ezra’s main job is to prepare the girls to be ready for his customers with whip and hardcore BDSM stuff. Even Evie could fill the requirement, the problem she’s too strong and dangerous.
The interaction between Evie and Ezra was confusing and unstable at first. Evie was confused between finding sinner and savior. She wants to kill the man but she also didn’t want to share him with anybody. The tension from this story could feel in the 60% from start. The internal conflict was circling around with slow paced and tug-of-war for Evie to achieve Ezra’s heart. The rest was full of gore action, human slavery and mafia business by Ezra and his competitor. I liked the consistency between Evie and Ezra until the end. The mysterious villain has big surprise at the end of 20%, but the conclusion from conflict was too rushed and anti-climax. Personally my favorite funny scene is at chapter 30 that could cooling down all the tense from the previous chapter.
